The UUCOB Alliance Mission Statement

The mission of the UUCOB Alliance is to: support the work of the UUCOB through service, fellowship, and education; to model Unitarian Universalist principles in the larger community; and to foster good relations between the UUCOB and local communities through outreach and community service.

Announcements from the Alliance October 26, 2023

At the October Alliance meeting, attendees worked on planning which small local charities
would receive the Share the Plate funds. God’s Bathhouse, serving local homeless people, will
be the recipient for November. We reviewed other worthy charities and will finalize the
remainder of the schedule at our next meeting.

Holiday season fund raising will include Sunday post service sales of small holiday items, crafts,
and jewelry on December 3 and December 10. We will also provide a Sunday post service bake
sale on December 17. In addition, if there is a fall rummage sale, the Alliance will provide one
section of holiday items for sale. We decided to have the Sock Tree again, renamed Santa’s
Undie Tree, for more accuracy.

We had discussions about how to support the congregation in these lean times. It was decided
that we will raise money for UUCOB by serving lunches at monthly Alliance meetings for a $10
donation by members and friends. These donations will all go to support our congregation.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, November 9, starting with a luncheon at 11:30, with the
business meeting starting at noon. New members and friends are always encouraged to
attend.

Annual Report of The Alliance – June 2022

Our commitment to service, education, and fellowship guided us this year. In education, we learned about the local domestic violence shelter and programming, and about ways to support the most vulnerable people in Ukraine. In service, we focused on planning how to help the local community with the share-the-plate fund raising. For the upcoming year, we decided to focus on six of these worthy groups, rather than twelve, to increase our impact.

During the past December holidays, we provided gifts and funds for three projects. We gave individualized gifts to people at the First Step homeless shelter, gave gifts to the women at the Avenues 12 homes for recovering substance abusers, and gave money and clothing items to God’s Bathhouse for the homeless.

In addition, in the area of service, this spring we conducted food drives to benefit the Jerry Dolinger Food Pantry that supplies groceries for needy local families. We donated to the UU Service Committee for Ukraine. We also funded projects to support our own congregation, purchasing two new outdoor tables for use on our deck and contributing to the piano fund in memory of Harry White.

Our goal of fellowship flows throughout our work and meetings, but we did have an especially good time at the May luncheon meeting where we were entertained by a magician (also a UUCOB Marketplace buy). We encourage all to join us as new members for good work and good fun.
